My copy is actually titled "Dexter's Final Cut" - a better suggestion that this is the FINAL book, than "Debut" would seem to imply.
Well, it looks like it took me AGES to finish this one, but that's only because of Pokemon. The release of X and Y on 13th of October ruined my reading plan for the year. However, it was totally worth it.
And now, the book.
I was ok with the ending. The ending was the most important issue for me, in this instance. All I wanted was for it to be better than the ending of the TV show. Lumberjack. Fucking bullshit.
Anyway, the ending of the book was more fitting to the character of the novels, in my opinion. And, really, I would have been happier if that WAS the ending of the TV show. However, there was still more I wanted to know. I would have really liked an epilogue, maybe from Deb's point of view, talking about what did happen to Dexter and his kids. I feel sorry for Cody and Lily Anne. Despite Dexter often talking about how Cody is his "heir" with his own dark passenger, Dexter has done very little training with him. The three kids will most likely end up "in the system" in foster care or adoption. Cody will have a very difficult time of it. He's never going to learn The Harry Code and the best result would be that he'd end up more like Dexter's brother.
I really wish this wasn't the last book.

Deeply unhappy with this final book. If felt to genuine to his character throughout the series and the ending was horrible. After a horrible ending to the TV series I hoped it would be redeemed with the book.
Disappointing
A lot of words for an obvious plot from the beginning. He made Dexter look like a moron. Dexters usual keen eye for clues was completely gone. Disappointing book.
