What did I just read? What the F did I read?!? It started off okay but turned into a pile of poop. I don't know what author Jeff Lindsay was thinking with this book but you can tell he definitely is done with the series. Compared to Double Dexter, which I absolutely loved, this just didn't go anywhere at all.

l complaints about this series, I enjoyed this one for the most part. Definitely better than the last few books. To read my full review, please visit my blog: https://allyouneedarebooksandcats.wordpress.com/2022/02/21/dexters-final-cut/
The ending! Oh, my goodness, that ending! I can’t write about it! I want to! It recked me! I had absolutely no idea this was coming. No idea at all. Ok, time for that calming sip of Coke Zero, a second or two to regroup, and let me try this from the top.
A TV network wants to film a drama about Miami forensics and police activities. They consult with Dexter’s unit and their presence creates an interesting dynamic. There’s an actor who will play Dexter in the production. He’s there to learn as much as he can about the blood spatter specialist. Of course, he will never learn about the serial killer side of Dexter Morgan. Incidentally, if you start with this book, you do yourself a horrible disservice. Please read the entire series from front to back in order. Don’t start with this book.
The woman who plays Dexter’s hard-punching, foul-mouthed cop sister, Debra, is Jackie. She is too good to be true, too beautiful to be believable, but not so grand as to avoid seducing a guy who, until this book, can’t feel lust.
You must salute any author who can take a serial killer and craft him such that you feel worse about the fact that he cheated on his wife than you do his many after-hours murders dispensed to make a better Miami.
There are too many character changes here for this to be entirely believable. I just wouldn’t have pictured Dexter as a cheat, and the betrayal stung something fierce. And to my critics who will insist I’ve already told too much, I say you are clueless if that’s what you think. I haven’t even circled around that ending, and I won’t.
If you’re triggered by bad language, note there’s lots of it in this book. I never watched the series on cable when it was out there, but some say this is the author’s way of more closely aligning the book to the show. I don’t know.
I felt terrible about Dexter’s ease at throwing his faithful wife, Rita, to the gutter. Granted, he married her as a prop to provide a greater sense of normalcy, but for him to suddenly get loud and lusty with a starlet while serving as her bodyguard stretches believability. Besides, this is bubbly, talkative Rita! A great mom, a better-than-average cook, and at least sexually compatible enough to bear Dexter a little girl. He flings treasure aside for the dross of a Hollywood hottie? Seems a long stretch.
Still, the book eagerly engaged me to the back page, and it will you as well, but only if you start the series at the beginning

The Good Stuff
I'm sorry Carianne, I just love these Dexter books. He is such a charming monster that you cannot help but cheer for him a little. But he only kills bad people Carianne so its ok
I also enjoy watching the TV version of Dexter as he is a tad more sympathetic and almost human. But lets face it, a more emotional Dexter isn't as fun as the witty psychopathic serial killer he is in the novels (yes I am slightly ashamed by this fact, but hello this is fiction people, if he was real I would want him behind bars -- ok and a part of me would want him offing those that pray on the innocent)
Dark and wonderfully dryly witty - love the inner monologue of Dexter
These Dexter books keep getting better and better and this time I am already impatiently awaiting the next book in this series. No spoilers but the ending will make you go WTF and than want to call up Lindsay and tell him to hurry up and write the next novel so I know what happens to our devilishly bad Dexter. How is he going to get out of this one I NEED to know
Nice to see the more dark and witty Dexter after watching our loveable monster become way too sappy on the show
I think some of this story probably came from Lindsay's experience with having his book made into a tv show - both the good and the bad and loved the commentary on the television industry
There is a Princess Bride quote
Opening chapter is hilarious and hooks you in right away
Story is fast paced and keeps you guessing
The Not So Good Stuff
The ending - come on Lindsay I am not a patient women - I need to know what happens next
Must not read Dexter books on public transit. They make me howl with laughter and when people see the title on the book they slowly move away from you -- hmm never mind, that might be a good thing
Favorite Quotes/Passages
"I really wanted to say that I looked for people like him and made them go away into neat bundles, carefully packed into heavy-duty garbage bags. But I realized that it was probably not the most politically correct answer."
"To know me is to love me, and I was very fond of me, too. A list of my finer qualities would easily occupy almost half the front side of a three-by-five card. Although the list does taper off rather dramatically after "good with a knife."
"It made me so angry that I could calm myself only by picturing Robert duct-taped to a table, with me standing happily above him clutching a fillet knife. Still, I ate his doughnuts."
4.5 Dewey's

Sétimo livro, estória abandonada, Hollywood Dexter (???), absolutamente chato!
What the hell was this? I hated Dexter in this one and I thought the storyline was ridiculous. Also great fuck you cliffhanger.
I just found out that Jeff Lindsay is actually the person who reads the audio books. I am at the same time both excited and saddened by that fact. Excited because I love when the author reads their own books. Saddened because I really love his narration and I am sad that only the Dexter books are read by this voice. There are some narrators that are just so perfect that they make the book/series.... the Ender's Game series... the Odd Thomas series... and Ready Player One are some of my favorite audio books in part because the narration was so perfect.
As for the book itself... I loved 98% of the book. The last 5 minutes were complete BS. I can't believe it ended like that!
