I loved this book! O'Meara's passion for horror and her love for Millicent are very appearent in her writing. I swear you can almost hear her laugh or cry as you go through the book.

It goes back and forth between Millicent's life and O'Meara's adventures in researching for this book which I greatly enjoyed. I love when people get inside baseball on things they're passionate about. It helps that both stories are incredibly compelling.

I also liked how the magic of the film industry was balanced with the many problems pervasive to that and let's be real most other industries: sexism, racism, and ableism. These are all unfortunately alive and well, and we need to shine lights on them to be able to drive them out.

This book was magnificent! As someone who grew up a female horror fan, I identified strongly with O'Meara's characterizations of what it's like to be so. Milicent Patrick's story is inspiring and I highly recommend this to anyone who's interested in film history at all!

This book is fascinating. What a life to lead in the 1950s. I am not a horror fan, I’ve never even seen the creature from the black lagoon, but this woman’s life was really interesting. It would be higher than a 4 but it was a really slow start. She goes into depth about her parents and it’s not really necessary to the story in terms of how much detail there is. But the research she did and what she uncovered was fascinating. I recommend for anyone who loves horror movies and learning about behind the scenes of movies way back when.

Upon reread I love this even more! O'Meara is hilarious and so engaging. I devoured the whole book and instantly grabbed her next book Girly Drinks: A Women's History of Drinking even though I don't drink because she's just such a pleasure to read!
