Questo libro è un saggio molto bene documentato e dal taglio fortemente femminista.
Il racconto delle 5 donne vittime di Jack lo squartatore è contestualizzato con complessi riferimenti storiografici e con note molto precise.
Il tutto diventa quindi un grande saggio circa la condizione delle donne nella working class vittoriana e con respiro più ampio della condizione della donna.
A mio avviso ha però il difetto di parlare troppo poco di queste donne e in modo a mio gusto troppo freddo e concentrarsi davvero troppo sul corollario. Se facessimo una proporzione sulle pagine probabilmente c’è più descrizione di contesto e argomentazione che racconto delle vite delle 5 protagoniste.
Io preferisco le biografie romanzate quindi storco un poco il naso ma parliamo indubbiamente di un saggio ben fatto.

Having been obsessed with the story of Jack the Ripper after taking the tour in London this summer, I thought this book would help feed my new obsession, but unfortunately I found it dry, like most nonfiction I read. I want it told with drama, intrigue, along with the history elements. I think I need a podcast instead of a true crime book. I also found the author’s research lacking and her assumptions leaning towards fiction more often than not.
