Amazing book that told the stories of women who have been reduced in history to "just prostitutes", despite the fact that they were human beings with stories to tell just like the rest of us. This book is also a commentary on misogynistic views that were held back then and are still held to day, the view that women who are deemed sexually impure are less worthy of life, of compassion and respect. Jack the Ripper is revered as this genius mastermind killer, and this reverence of him causes us to forget the lives of the women who were killed by him. We cast aside the victims of Jack the Ripper because we decided that they all must be prostitutes and therefore, their murders were less of a tragedy. The five canonical victims of Jack the Ripper deserve to have their stories told because they were human beings just as worthy of life as the rest of us, and this book does a great job doing that.

I don’t read a lot of non-fiction, so my rating is probably a little skewed. It was so hard learning the stories of the woman who were murdered by Jack the Ripper. Since he is so glorified, I knew nothing about the victims. I appreciated the ending touching on how this is just another tragedy on a long list of wrongs done to women and how we still idolize the men who do wrong, and not the women who fall victim

All books about Jack the Ripper chronicle his crimes but barely touch on his victims. This book tells you the back ground of each woman and barely mention their killer. As a person who really enjoys reading anything on Jack the Ripper I found this book very enjoyable and feel the author did a great job bringing all 5 women to life!
