This book is a truly beautiful correcting of misogynistic, patriarchal history.

Hallie Rubenhold's book grips you from page one as it recreates the not only the lives of each of the victim's of Jack the Ripper but the social and economical norms that so detrimentally shaped the paths of each women.

Rubenhold not only brings each woman to life with hearbreaking realness she also cements why correcting the myth that they were all prostitutes is so important today. Citing modern day predators like Bock Turner - whose victim blaming led to a very short jail term.

HIGH RECOMMEND.

I wanted so badly to like this book because the concept of it is interesting but the writing is ASS and I could not keep up

Loved it. Always been obsessed with Jack the Ripper but this put it into a new perspective for me. Reading how these women were treated and the hardships they went through just to be labelled as a prostitute was awful. A little bit slow on the build up of some of the backstories but s good read.

I felt this was a well researched analysis of Victorian London and the people who were left vulnerable by the system. Absolutely devastating at times but made some excellent commentary on how certain victims are represented and made me reconsider how I approach this case or indeed other cases.

Author succeeds in making these women more than victims of a horrible man.  She explores how their lives left them vulnerable to attack and places them at the center of their own stories.
