Second reading after re-release. After reading a few other books with so many POV, this wasn't so jarring. I do enjoy the complexity of the characters. I have my favs but I still think Delphine is the worst. Sorry, not sorry.
The sudden change in POV, as well as a few dragging points had me skimming and I've never done that with a Simone novel.
Certain characters are forced likeable, oh she's privileged and bratty but she's adorable while doing it so it's okay. What? No!
Spoiler ...
I HATED, was FUMING, that Delphine was the chosen Lord for the ceremony. It felt off.
Overall, it was fine, and I'm going to start the rest, but right now, this is my least liked of a Sierra Simone book.

Sierra has yet to disappoint and I doubt she ever will!
Its so, so hard to find well-written smut.
I'm the opinion of this very well-read, well-educated English teacher? This is gorgeous.
Yes, there are some mistakes. But the characters are compelling, the prose is poetic, and the smut is straight-up stunning.
I am absolutely obsessed.

I had to listen to the prologue twice because I felt like I was missing something -- mainly, what age were the kids when they played at fake wedding because some of the shit that Auden was thinking / feeling had me questioning wtf I was reading. Anyway, I ended having to find a copy of the ebook (bless you Libby for having ebook samples) to eyeball read the prologue and even then I still didn't know wtf was going on or how any of it was related to a woman who goes to a house to figure out how her mom died/disappeared (that's in the synopsis -- don't at me). Chapter 1 was a whole lot of nothing and ended with «I turn, and I see the boy I’ve hated myself for loving for the last twelve years.» And that was it. I very much dislike reading about years-long (decade-plus!) pining so I'm DNFing. Not for me.

REVIEW ✨✨:
I came for the smut and stayed for the plot… and more smut. It was just starting to get good, and I didn’t even get THE SCENE I really wanted!
Goddamnit, she did it again. This is a rerelease, and I’m a newish Sierra Simone reader who has been quickly converted to a lamb. A Lesson in Thorns is the fourth series I’m starting, and it did not disappoint. The angst, the sapphic elements—honestly, I ate up everything in this book. So let’s talk about it.
The story gripped me from the prologue, and her use of third person was expertly done. It gave me insight into all the main characters (there are six of them—yes, SIX). Having multiple main characters can feel like unorganized chaos, but in this case, it just feels like Degrassi meets Shonda Rhimes. Yes, still chaotic, but you’re hanging on to Every. Single. Word. This choice also opened the door to the lore we start to unravel later in the story.
The characters—I’m obsessed with these babies, and I want them all to have a HEA, okay? Each of them has personal development to work on (even you, Father Beckett), and I cannot wait to see where this journey leads them. A Lesson in Thorns is a perfect example of what a first book in a series should look like.
I really need to read Feast of Sparks now.
