a bit under-edited, with a few character name typos (e.g. catarina being spelled caterina once) and many repetitive turns of phrase (e.g. glowed with the soft glow), but i guess when youre 6 books and several spinoffs into a series publishers get lax with that kind of thing cause they know it'll sell on name recognition alone
other than that a really solid entry into the world and a nice ending for this particular series, i enjoyed the relationship development, both romantic and otherwise (the simon-alec sorta-friendship was unexpectedly nice), the twist that resolved the final fight would have been unexpected if i hadn't been spoiled for it and still worked quite well even though i knew what to expect, and i very much enjoyed the introduction to our next set of protagonists, the blackthorns and emma. also nice to see the characters from the infernal devices again, in a way that didn't feel intrusive.

I absolutely loved this entire series! I read The Infernal Devices series while waiting for this book to come out and could barely put those books down either. I was so excited that the Infernal Devices characters were a big part of this book - but not so big that you wouldn't understand what's going on if you hadn't read that series. I thought this City of Heavenly Fire was a perfect conclusion to the series although I would have loved more of an epilogue to find out where all the characters end up years down the road. I was laughing out loud at some parts of the book and crying in other places. I think it took me all of about 3 days to read the whole thing because it was just so good. Highly recommended to fans of the series.

I lost this and boom 5 (which I was 3/4 of the way though) when I moved houses during uni and am too stubborn to get it again. Found them about a week ago and loved them so much I smashed my way through them both, finishing the series.
These are genuinely amazing books and they hold a place on my bookshelf of pride, where I keep my favourite books. Sitting in its rightful place alongside my Rick Riordan books.
My reading list for this week? Tales from the Shadowhunters Academy and Lady Midnight here I come!

I actually finished a series! Finally! This was a good book. I liked it very much. I don't have much else to say because I don't remember really anything that happened, but still. Good book
When I finished reading the previous book in 2013, I could not wait for this to be released a few months later. I wanted to know how everything would turn out, how everyone would end up. When I finally got a hard copy of the book, I could not read fast. I didn't feel bored, I was just busy. This has influence my 3 stars rating a lot. I could not properly get in the book like I did with the other volumes of the saga, especially the first three. In my opinion the story had to stop there.
Yes, I know that theorically, CC also had to finish it there but the editor asked her to continue, this is why these last three installments look like fillers.
This book was very predictable since the beginning. I realized how things will turn out page after page, the plot twists were oh, so weak. This book didn't surprise me one bit. I expected it all. And no, I haven't read spoilers. Even though this has been out for months, I ordered myself not to.
It was simple too filled with informations we could avoid to read. Too many characters, too many POVs. At first it was just Clary and Simon's prospective, now everyone had their own vision of things and I felt it was unecessary to do so - it is not a kind of way to narrate things I like.
It makes me sad to be writing these things, but these are my feelings right now.
This book has completely disappointed me, and not even the happy ending most of the characters have can make up for this.
