Perfect ending to a great series. I'm not ready to see these characters go!
Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Ende der The Mortal Instruments Reihe. Nachdem so viel passiert ist, muss ich meine Gedanken erst einmal ordnen, allerdings würde ich dem Buch eher 4,5 Sterne statt volle 5 Sterne geben, habe jedoch aufgerundet, weil es das letzte Buch der TMI Reihe ist, eine meiner absoluten Lieblingsbuchreihen überhaupt. An manchen Stellen fand ich, dass das Buch etwas zu lang war, sodass vieles sich gezogen hat. Anfangs ging die Handlung teilweise nur etwas schleppend voran und vor allem durch die Szenen mit Maia musste ich mich anfangs quälen, obgleich sie mir sehr leid getan hatte. Wirklich spannend fing es für mich an zu werden, nachdem Clary und Jace Sebastian zum ersten Mal im Kampf an der Zitadelle der Iron Sisters im Kampfe gegenüberstanden. Am besten fand ich das Buch, nachdem Clary und ihre Freunde sich auf den Weg nach Edom machte. Hier wurde es dann richtig interessant und spannend.
Mit vielen Dingen, die passiert sind, hatte ich nicht im geringsten gerechnet. Die Art und Weise, wie Clary Sebastian besiegen konnte, war clever gelöst, und sogar wenn man Sebastian aus vollstem Herzen gehasst hatte, konnte man nicht anders, als ein paar Tränen zu verdrücken, als Jonathan - nun der Sohn, der er hätte sein können, wäre er nicht von Valentine kaputt gemacht worden - in den Armen seiner Mutter gestorben war. Man konnte ihm das, was er getan hatte, nicht verzeihen und es wäre auch zu viel gewesen, hätte Jonathan im Tode Vergebung gefunden. Doch dass trotzdem gezeigt wurde, wer er hätte sein können, welchen Bruder Clary hätte haben können und dass die Chance auf diese Familie von Valentine kaputt gemacht worden war, fand ich sehr schön. Auch hatte ich nicht erwartet, dass Simon nicht nur wieder ein Mensch werden und seine Erinnerungen verlieren würde, sondern eine Ausbildung zum Shadowhunter beginnen würde, nachdem man bereits dachte, dass Clary, Isabelle und die anderen den Simon, wie sie ihn gekonnt hatten, für immer verloren hätten. Seine Erinnerungen hat er noch nicht wieder, allerdings plane ich definitiv, die Kurzgeschichten über Simons Zeit an der Akademie zu lesen. Ich liebe Simon, egal ob als Mundie, Vampir oder Shadowhunter, und nachdem er sich in der Nähe von Shadowhuntern immer am wohlsten gefühlt hatte und sich auf eine gewisse Art und Weise selbst wie einer gefühlt hatte, finde ich dieses Ende - oder eher diesen Neubeginn - für ihn mehr als passend und perfekt.
Ein ebenso wichtiger Teil wie die Geschichte sind die vielen verschiedenen romantischen Beziehungen in der "The Mortal Instruments"-Reihe, welche auch in CoHF wieder sehr schön zur Geltung kommen konnten. Jedes der drei großen Paare hatte wunderschöne Momente und auch das erste Mal von Clary und Jace fand ich toll in die Geschichte hineingewoben. Im Endeffekt bekamen alle Paare so etwas wie ein Happy End, vor allem Clary & Jace sowie Alec & Magnus, während die Dinge bei Simon & Izzy noch etwas offen zu stehen scheinen. Es gab jedoch für jedes Paar eine Art Happy End, was mich sehr freute.
Besonders mochte ich jedoch die Einbindung von Emma und den Blackthorn-Kindern, welche - zu meiner großen Überraschung - fast sogar mein Lieblingsteil am Buch gewesen waren. Es fühlte sich an wie wenn man den Backdoor Piloten eines Spin-Offs einer TV-Serie schaut, welche man liebt. All die vertrauten Charaktere, die man ins Herz geschlossen hat, sind da, und dann sind da noch diese vielen neuen Charaktere, welche man gleich genauso sehr ins Herz schließt. Ich freue mich schon sehr auf die "The Dark Artifices"-Reihe. Die Beziehung zwischen Emma und Julian ist herzerwärmend und ich fand es großartig, wie die Handlung von CoHF bereits den Weg für TDA auslegt. Ich kann es kaum erwarten, mehr von den beiden zu lesen. Was ich auch mit am meisten mochte war, dass es so viel von Jem in diesem Buch gab. Ich wusste nach dem Lesen von Clockwork Princess zwar schon, dass er wieder ein Mensch werden würde, doch nun zu erfahren, wie das alles passiert, war umso besser. Ich habe mich so sehr darüber gefreut, im Epilog Tessa wiederzusehen, welche Clary ihren Codex und den Herondale Familienring gegeben hatte. Ich liebe die TID-Reihe so sehr, dass es schön war, die beiden wiederzusehen und den kleinen Hinweis darauf zu bekommen, dass man noch mehr von ihnen in TDA sehen wird. "It's a story about Herondales, Lightwoods, and Fairchilds", wie Jem so schön gesagt hatte, und ich mag es, wie die Fäden sich von TID bis hin zu TMI gezogen haben, diese drei Familien, und sich weiter bis hin zu TDA wegen der Carstairs und Blackthorns - welche immerhin auch etwas Herondale in sich haben - ziehen werden.
Bis auf ein paar Markel und zähe Stellen war das Buch toll gewesen, ein großartiger und gebührender Abschluss für die "The Mortal Instruments"-Reihe. Es ist nicht mein liebstes Buch der Reihe, und auch nicht mein liebstes Buch von Cassie (das ist Clockwork Princess), aber das Buch war nichts destotrotz ein tolles Leseerlebnis.

I knew what to expect when going into this. I love the idea of this series, but I think it should have been left as a trilogy. I found the climax to be a bit underwhelming. Not that I need explosions at every turn, but just a little more action and less talking would've been nice. Another thing that really irked me was the CONSTANT love drama. I know, it's a YA novel and a certain amount has to be left for the lustful teenage imagination, but the soppy glances and heartthrobs got a bit exhausting: we know, Jace is beautiful.
Overall, though a bit tedious, I felt the series was fun; a fun idea with a plethora of mythical creatures and magic. I knew what I was getting into, so i didn't expect too much complexity, but this book left me a bit wanting. The concept is so rich but wasn't utilized as such.

This is the 6th in a young adult fantasy series and I read this one mainly because, well, I got this far in the series so why quit now? I can’t say I’d recommend this one to other readers. This one was a bit of a slog and there was a lot of ick factor with the brother-sister thing with main villain Sebastian. It did have some funny parts and ended on a good note.

Hmmm, where do I even start? Get the book, read the book, live the book!! It is just a great book and I love it. I don't know how anyone could sum something so great up into only a few sentences. The other books were a roller coaster of emotions but this is another roller coaster in itself. I don't know what your favorite couple is, but this book brings out them all, and he is amazing as is the rest of the book. I cannot see how any one wouldn't love this book if you have not read it yet you should read it. If you don't want to read it, you should. Well, stop reading this review already and go get the book.

I read this in ten hours. No joke. My mom saw me reading it, and then the next day, when I was reading something else, she was like, "That bad, huh?" and I told her, "No, it was fantabulous!" and she looked at me, then at the massive tome on the coffee table, and nearly yelled, "Don't you know how to take your time and savor a book?!"
No, mom, City of Heavenly Fire is not the kind of book to be savored in your first reading; it is to be devoured!
Anyway...from the minute I read the prologue, which holy crap! had my heart racing and my blood pumping, I knew that we were in for a crazy as all hell ride.
A few of my main points, since I don't necessarily want to drag on, and because I've already fangirled and hypothesized and freaked out with my friend, who also read/finished it.
1) I love Emma Carstairs. I love her, adore her and can't wait to follow her in The Dark Artifices. I think she's kick ass, sarcastic, funny and innocently intelligent (in which I mean she notices the things that not everyone would notice). I just...squeeeee!
2) Mark Blackthorn is going to be my baby. No ifs, ands, or buts about it, that two-toned eyed beauty is going to make my heart suffer about a thousand times more in TDA. I'll probably love Jules too, but Mark has already sunk an arrow in me.
3) I loved both Maia and Alec in COHF, for entirely different reasons. I admired Maia's bravery and courage and her strength and I think that she's going to be a kick ass pack leader. That fight for dominance was insane! And Alec, Mr. Sassmaster himself, really stepped up his game. Despite being heartbroken over Magnus, he was much more assertive and take charge, and between that and the most HILARIOUS one-liners EVER in TMI, he became one of my favorites.
4) Herondale cave sex. Must run in the family. Also, HE CHOSE HERONDALE!!!!!!
5) Magnus has got some serious daddy issues, and I have half a mind to go and torture Asmodeus in a very Sebastian-like manner. Speaking of whom...
6) I want to know how Cassandra Clare can make me deplore/sob over a character like Sebastian/Jonathan Morgenstern. Sebastian was cray and his ending was fantastic. I knew right away what was going to happen as soon as Clary stepped into the ring of fire, but still. You go girl! But then, between the dream Clary had and the real Jonathan popping out (WITH GREEN EYES!!) at the end, I was heartbroken for what could've been.
7) Brother Zachariah/Jem Carstairs/Zachariah. Still a badass. Can't wait for more from him and Tessa. Also, I saw the UK comic strip that we didn't get in the US edition and GROSS HYSTERICAL SOBBING WILL!!!!!
8) First, the affair between the Seelie Queen and Sebastian creeped me out. The entire time I was like, "Girl, can't you see that he's only sleeping with you because your red hair reminds him of Clary???". And then, I went on CC's tumblr and saw a post that has me hyperventilating like a long distance runner. We know that faerie women can carry children, Shadowhunter children, with no problem (Helen and Mark Blackthorn) and that the Queen proved interested in what that might be. CC then replied, when asked why the Seelie Queen didn't arrive for the trial herself, that "she had a very good reason for not wanting the Clave to see her." And all I can think about is AWW HELL NO THE SEELIE QUEEN IS PREGNANT WITH THE DEMON SHADOWHUNTER SPAWN OF SEBASTIAN FREAKING MORGENSTERN!!!!!! Considering that TDA is going to be very concerned with the fairies of Seelie and Unseelie, this could prove to be a really bad development.
9) The Clave does not learn. Ever. They are incapable of learning. I want to punch them repeatedly. Forever.
10) SIMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have this headcanon (slightly supported by UK comic art) that Simon ascends, after which, his memories are restored (since he is now a part of the Shadow world) and he chooses the last name Daylight for his name and the sun as his sigil.
Over all, I did get emotional during this book, but I wasn't all out sobbing like I was by the end of Clockwork Princess (WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Still, it was a fantastic conclusion to an amazing series and I cannot wait for TDA to come out. Also the Simon Lewis Stories or whatever. All the stars for this one!
