I started this series for two reasons:

1. I want to know if Will Herondale deserves the love.
2. I bought the dark artifices series years ago and didn’t understand shit.

As for this book, it’s very unnecessarily long which made me bored 90% of the time.

As for the series generally, very bad writing and I had zero connection to any of the characters. I am sure reading this as an adult is affecting the experience but I said what I said.

Im so glad to be done with this series. It was so boring and there was no reason for this book to be over 700 pages. I kept zoning out while reading and never once missed anything of substance. The storyline itself was interesting and wrapped up the series nicely but overall I was just so bored. I’m too stubborn to abandon the shadowhunter books altogether so I really hope the remaining series are better.

(4.5)

the book was really thick and had many pages. so it was very long, but all the scenes still made sense to me and weren't too drawn out... although sometimes they could have been shortened a bit.
anyway, the plot of this book was quite good. it was a bit boring in the beginning, but it got much more exciting when the five went to Edom!
the characters in the book developed so well in the end. I actually liked all the characters and really took them to my heart. Simon, Isabelle, Alec, Magnus, Jace and also Clary yes, haha. I just like their relationship with each other. they are a great group of friends with a lot of irony and love <3

so would I recommend the series in the end though? it was a really long journey and I took a lot of breaks while reading it too, but it still grabbed me in the end and it was a nice experience to read the books and immerse myself in the world. so hell yeah!!!

“Freely we serve
Because we freely love, as in our will
To love or not; in this we stand or fall.”

I'm finding it hard to rate this book because so much of it was rather dreary and boring. As a matter of fact, I only started getting into it and enjoying it way past the halfway mark. I'm ultimately giving this 3 stars because, despite its flaws, I honestly have enjoyed this series and I have to admit it's one of my favourites (if I wasn't so invested in this series I probably would've given this 2 stars because LBR as far as last books go this was far from amazing). I know a LOT of people (including myself) have found this final instalment a letdown (not QUITE on the colossal scale of letdownness that Allegiant was on but it was close), however taking the series as a whole it's not TOO bad. There is just so much to love about this series that it honestly outweighs and cancels out the disastrousness that is more and more frequently occurring in the final instalment of any given series. The books themselves are fantastically engaging and complex - I loved the story lines, character development, and plot twists; they have made this series wonderful and fun to read. I have felt so many emotions whilst reading this series; they have made me laugh, cry, yell and seethe with anger (thank u sebastian morgernstern). I don't think I'll ever find a series as interesting and well developed as this. the part at the end with sebastian - sorry, jonathan - honestly broke my heart. I mean, we finally got a glimpse of the boy he could've been and hhhhhhhh it just made me so upset :c and the fact that simon lost his memories nnoooo ::'((( shoutout to the relationship and friendship dynamics in this tho
