Didn't expect to finish this book in one day- but it was that good! It was a romance and a food travelogue, and an exploration of loss and family. Made me want to cook!

I can't even describe to you how much I adored this story! It was gripping from the start and I just instantly connected with the characters and their lives and the way that food was so intimately tied to their everyday life experiences as well as their deepest connections with loved ones.

The descriptions of the food and culture of China are so exquisite in this novel, I found it difficult to put down; it is absolutely beautiful. The plot wasn't overly original, but the writing style compensates for that so I awarded it four stars.

Really good descriptions of food and recipes. But boring and predictable lifestyle of a mid class woman

I enjoyed this book very much. I really like the explanation of the Chinese philosophy of cooking for the mind, body and soul. I don't know that I would be able to eat all the types of food, but the author made it sound delicious.
