This book really surprised me! It was beautiful & heartbreaking, but not in a way that felt gratuitous. I loved Jack Jr.’s sense of humor, and the family dynamics deeply resonated with me.
“Fish daddy” ftw! Seriously though I didn’t expect to care about all the characters so much. It was hard to finish because I didn’t want to say goodbye, but the ending was more than satisfying. I was cheesing so hard. My only qualm is that I can’t eat at the restaurant :,)
Oh and Daniel K. Isaac is easily one of the best audiobook narrators I’ve encountered! That man did his thing

Feel good, emotional, with a lot of sharp humor!!
"It was a peculiar thing, to become aware of something that felt obvious, realizing that for all the time you might have spent with it, it still might have escaped you."
Such a lovely, smooth, enjoyable read. Jack Jr. just woke up from a two year coma, and we learn about his life, his family, what he has lost, and what he hopes to gain. A beautiful journey, we meet his Korean family who runs a sushi restaurant, and follow him as he learns how to let go of expectations and settle into life. Sometimes our life does not go as planned, and that is ok. Embrace what is there and be with those you love! Made me want to eat sushi...

Overall it was a good book but it was a little hard to get over some of the language at the beginning (lots of f-bombs!). I loved the descriptions of the food and the dynamics of the Korean family.
