Slow paced, but a page turner. I have high expectations because I like If We Were Villains and a lot of people have said they're similar. I just wish some things weren't written in so much detail.

This book has been on my "to read" list for years so I was excited to finally get round to reading it.
But, I didn't finish it. The opening is exciting and intriguing and beautifully written. But it just plods along after that.
It's the story of a group of upper class college students who study Ancient Greek. One of them is murdered by the others and the book is the story of how it happened. It's a shame I couldn't finish because I would have liked to have read more about the build up to the murder, but the whole middle section of the book just seems pointless. Maybe it was scene setting or attempts at creating an atmosphere but I just found that I didn't care what these kids were doing.
Another book ticked off my "to read" list but, sadly, not worth the hype.

I'm angry. Angry at myself for not listening to my gut and DNFing this book by 20% in, like I should have. I feel like this book is like the Emperor's New Clothes, people just say they like it so they don't feel like they're foolish because, it's actually garbage.

This is, supposed to be, I guess, some kind of.. thriller? I am not sure, as it moves like molasses. I'd say about 10% of it is interesting/riveting at best. The characters are poorly built, and there are just way too many of them. There is a lot of talk about how everyone adores the weird Classics professor, but there's very little of his character actually featured in the book.

This feels like an overwrought, ego led, takes itself way too seriously, pile of flaming garbage. Wow. What a waste of time.
