Reading some original Sherlock mysteries was interesting. I can certainly see where it's been a major influence on the mystery genre. I didn't find it very engaging overall though.

i really liked those short stories much more than the novels. i think connan doyle is a good author when it comes to mysteries and sometimes humour, but his characters, apart maybe from holmes himself, often lack depth and seem very repetitive (very contrary to christie's, which are what make her novels so very engaging i think).
