Im not impressed with this book...It was written in a simple and boring way. It was repetitive and predictable...So many pointless narratives...The author tried to mix so many ideas with talking dogs, super ants, robots and mutants that lead to nothing.
With how boring it was,i was not surprised how it ended. All that stupid rambling just to end like that?
Future this,future that...
So many unresolved questions...rushed and just no main focus in particular...

Eh?? Very Golden Age vibe, which means that the ideas are interesting but very abstract, & the characters are essentially cardboard cutouts of Family Men and Great Minds. Also not as fun as I'd like a book that promises to contain stories told by dogs to be. Didn't really feel the canine influence in the narration at all.

Such a charming, lovely novel about Man’s best friend taking over where humans left off. I just can’t decide if I liked it more than Simak’s “Way Station,” but I think I’m leaning towards “City” for the win. The tales throughout are so memorable and this is definitely a book for dog lovers; the stories were comforting, wistful and often melancholy. Simak just has good vibes and I’m here for it. The science behind the premise doesn’t really make any sense when you think about it for more than 2 seconds but honestly it just doesn’t matter because it’s such a nice idea. Simak is looking to be my favorite golden era sci-fi author so far.

So I really thought this was going to be more up-front in the conflict between dogs and humans after dogs inherit the earth, but — surprisingly for 50s science fiction? — it was more subtle than that. Still deeply sexist, and embedded in a frame narrative that doesn’t suuuuper work, but these linked short stories have some shining moments despite their oddnesses and their flaws — tender and strangely intimate.
