I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the movie is better than the book. Rachel macadams and Ryan gosling are such good actors. I liked that in the book you got a lot more detail after ally is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and their living in the nursing room, but it was missing so much from their love story when they had their reunion. For 14 years apart, I wanted more drama lol. The book was very straight forward, nothing surprised me (granted I have seen the movie so that probably isn’t fair to say), I was entertained but it was kind of a let down.

“I love you. I am who I am because of you. You are every reason, every hope, and every dream I've ever had, and no matter what happens to us in the future, everyday we are together is the greatest day of my life. I will always be yours.”

This was such a beautiful story. This is my first book by Nicholas Sparks and I'm already so in love with his beautiful, engaging and riveting writing. It took me quite some time to get into the story but once I did I couldn't stop reading it. The story, the characters, Noah and Allie's beautiful yet a heartbreaking love story, the ending. Everything was just perfect.

“She was my dream. She made me who I am, and holding her in my arms was more natural to me than my own heartbeat. I think about her all the time. Even now, when I'm sitting here, I think about her. There could never have been another.”

The letters they wrote to each other but never got to read them

I’m not sure I fully understand the hype surrounding this book since the romance seemed very lackluster and rushed followed by an extensive section about the end of their lives where 90% of their love story after they got together was summarised in a rush of details that had little to no emotional impact. This made it hard to care about either of the characters. Overall, pretty subpar.

Allie is a dick for stringing her fiancé along, her mom is a dick for being classist af and invading her Allie’s personal life. Noah and Lon are the only two decent characters and Lon isn’t even in the book much.
The good part of the book is Noah battling Allie’s Alzheimer’s. That made it worth reading.
Sparks is just so wordy…sigh.

EDIT: Actually Noah was with Allie knowing she’s married so you know what, no, not decent.
