Platform Seven is a clever piece of contemporary fiction which tackles big issues such as suicide and emotional abuse.
It’s well written, engaging and the characters are all believable.
I found the timeline a bit meandering at times, and I felt like some of the additional pages dedicated to the minor characters were unnecessary.

I read this for @literallydeadbookclub’s March pick of the month.
TW: suicide, abusive relationship.
It’s 4 AM. A man commits suicide on Platform Seven of Peterborough Railway Station.
18 months ago, a woman died on the same platform and the investigation concluded: by suicide.
Are they connected in some way? No one wants to know more than Lisa Evans, the woman who died that night.
To be perfectly honest, the first quarter of the book seemed gimmicky and quite strange, as I was getting used to our corporeal narrator.
But I love when books go back, and describe the events leading up to the current situation. It’s really interesting to read into signs and clues that foreshadow certain instances. So I appreciated that we got to follow along Lisa’s entire relationship with this man, who is a prime suspect throughout.
This part of the novel shined light on toxic and manipulative relationships, and psychological behaviors that result from harm and depression.
I only wish that it could’ve been switched to current day with every other chapter.
The idea was there, it was the execution that I thought didn’t elevate the story.
The ending like I mentioned was unexpectedly, subjective and I would’ve loved to see it be carried into a courtroom (although that was not the vibe at all).
That being said, I appreciated a lot of the elements yet I don’t exactly know if they were for me and my tastes.

I received a copy of this book via NetGalley.
This is a very sad but quite beautiful story, centred on Peterborough Railway Station. It is about the people who work at the station, their working and personal lives, narrated for the most part by a ghost. A lot of the book is a relationship drama detailing the life and events that led up to a thirty six year old woman becoming the ghost that haunts the railway station.
A quite original story, so heartbreaking that I actually found it quite difficult to read at times, about relationships (not just of the romantic variety), life and, of course death. An excellent read but, despite the little flashes of wry humour, it might be a good idea to have some tissues handy.

3.5 I listened to this one and the narrator was very good. The story and the writing were good as well. I think it's really less a thriller (which is what I expected) and more a story of domestic abuse. While listening I was creeped out because I kept thinking how awful the boyfriend was but in the end I think it's a strong story of domestic abuse and I'm hopeful it gives insight to those who are in abusive relationships and encourages them to make a move. It's never ok to be treated like the MC was in this story, and excuses for the abuser's behavior are not ok either. I would actually recommend this to any woman who is not yet in a relationship too, not just those in an abusive one.

This book was such a clusterfuck. I liked the parts about her relationship with Matty. I felt it was accurately depicted. The rest of the book was just all over the place for me. It had good bones that were very poorly executed.
