mysterious medium-paced

A moving and compelling novel that encapsulates a time not too far behind.

The heavy themes were tempered by Gail’s hilarious charm.

“He don’t sulk outta sight. Shit, no man sulks unless a woman can see him. What’s the point otherwise?”

The audiobook was well-read and a worthy listen.

challenging dark slow-paced

I don't think Karin Slaughter could write a book that I wouldn't like, but I had a difficult time reading this one. The amount of racism, misogyny and homofobia  it portraits gave me major anxiety. So check your trigger warnings

Least favorite book of hers, so far.

☆☆☆1\2 This was my first time reading a crime novel and I actually enjoyed it. I'm kinda sad, that I will not read more of Maggie and Kate, but hey, what can you do. Nonetheless, I think the writing style threw me off a bit, because I'm just not used to the vocabulary. But overall I enjoyed it. This got me in the mood for mystery, I think I would go for a New Orleans vibe next.
