Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

This was almost a DNF. I know it’s about the 1970s integration of women and African Americans into the Atlanta police department, but the language was intolerable. Definitely not my favorite Karin Slaughter. #DoNotRecommend (TW: racism, homophobia, sexism, anti-semitism)

Slaughter knows how to keep the reader turning pages. This is my least favorite of her books (and I've read almost all of them), it's still a great read. The mystery and plot were compelling, I just didn't like the characters and found the misogyny, racism, and homophobia hard to read. 3.5 stars

It wasn’t my favorite of her books, mainly because the characters were so unlikeable. Still a good, solid story. It always disgusts me to be reminded of how racist and misogynistic things were when I was growing g up.
