Didn’t enjoy the 70’s cop culture, racial discussions, misogyny

This is an odd book to rate. Karin Slaughter's writing is as good as ever, but the subject matter isn't easy to read and the mystery is not as strong as her other books. The book takes place in the 70s and depicts much of the discrimination and harassment towards women and minorities, particularly by the police. The story focuses on two women on the force as they search for a serial cop killer. I enjoyed both of these characters but pretty much hated everyone else in the story. Karin Slaughter is great at writing unlikeable disgusting male characters and this book is filled to the brim with them. It makes for a very uncomfortable reading experience. Ultimately, I'm glad I read this because I want to read all of Karin Slaughter's books, but it definitely wasn't my favorite. If you feel you'd be offended by anything I listed in the content warning list, I urge you not to read this.

Appreciated the unique plot/setting - not you’re standard thriller
Definitely one of my top favorite books by Karin Slaughter. Wonderfully crafted; I love how, even over just 400 pages, you don't have to sacrifice character or plot in a Slaughter book. Both elements have depth and detail and suspense which you don't always get from other authors (especially in this genre).

Damn that was a lot of sexism, racism, etc. Made me cringe how the men were speaking to women and the "s" term that was used. eeesh.... had me cringing more than the "c" word. lol.

Cop Town hat mich mehr von der Thematik interessiert, zumal es auch kein typischer Thriller ist.
1974 ist zwar eigentlich nicht so weit weg, aber man befindet sich doch in einer ganz anderen Zeit und diese wurde gut rüber gebracht.
Frauen, die zur Polizei gehen und nicht Heim und Herd hüten. Was männliche Cops drüber denken, genauso über Juden, Farbige und Homosexuelle. Vorurteile wohin man sieht. Vielleicht ist das ein oder andere überspitzt dargestellt, aber es wirkt mehr als authentisch.
Und mitten in dieser Welt finden sich Kate und Maddie, die einen Killer suchen. Auch wenn dies das eigentliche Hauptthema ist, so wird man doch durch viele Nebendachen manchmal abgelenkt und verliert den Blick auf das Wesentliche.
Trotzdem war es spannend zu hören wie immer kleine Puzzelteilchen sich zusammen gefügt haben.
Die Charaktere waren vielschichtig, bei ihnen war nichts wie es erst zu sein schien. Man muss hinter den Kulissen, für die Beweggründe, schauen. Man bekommt gute Eindrücke in die Charaktere.
Die Atmosphäre ist gut eingefangen in vielerlei Hinsicht.
Auf den Täter gibt es hier und da eine Spur aber keine wirklichen Hinweise warum er das macht bzw. hier ist wieder nichts wie es scheint.
Daher fand ich die Auflösung sehr gut.
