The Shadows We Hide is the long awaited sequel to The Life We Bury. I read that one a couple years ago so my memory was a little foggy on all the details, but thankfully Eskens does a good job throwing in tidbits from the last book that helped me connect the dots. Joe Talbert is a Minnesota reporter that finds out his father has been murdered from a news blurb and sets out to the small Minnesota town to find out more about the murder and the man that walked out on his mom while pregnant. I just loved how Eskens weaved the plot from the murder to the other details of Joe's personal life. I was also surprised with the resolution of the murder so that's a major plus for me. I'm looking forward to reading more of Eskens work, especially with being a Minnesotan and loving books that take place in my home state.

Eskens has done it again - another edge-of-my-seat thriller! The characters continue from those in The Life We Bury and I'm always leary of a sequel, but this one delivered! Thoroughly enjoyed this!

This is the sequel to The Life We Bury, and I enjoyed it more than the first book, which was also good. It has great characters and a compelling storyline. If you like character-driven mysteries, give these titles a try.

So happy to read the companion book to “the life we bury” —- enjoyed the story telling, as well as the suspense. And I DEFINITELY appreciated it being based in MN!
