Didn’t feel the genre and the writing

I loved this book! I enjoyed the different kinds of fae and the setting being in the modern world. The voice in my head definitely had an Irish accent while I was reading, and I loved the inclusion of Irish myths and folklore as part of the plot.

I do think that the last few chapters felt a bit rushed, like the resolution to the main conflict was just dropped in at the end, as if it had been forgotten until that point. I think it could have been extended some, maybe with the villain explaining more of his motivation or trying to trick Imogen into thinking he was doing everything for her because he cared for her before he was ultimately eliminated, without feeling like the plot was dragging on. This was my only issue with this book; otherwise, I enjoyed every minute of it!

I loved it I thought it's was such a great modern fantasy. It's a little predictable but otherwise I really really enjoyed it

3.5!

The start of a new series with the introduction of new characters and a long lost Fae Queen. A little choppy in the writing and storytelling. Even the fated mates seemed a little rushed. Love, loss and war always a fun time with magic.

I couldn’t tell if at first I was going to give this book 2 or 3 stars to be fully honest, I settled on 3 in the end because there were lots of aspects of it that I enjoyed. There were some definite are ACOTAR vibes but also some pirates of the Caribbean vibes which I wish had been explored more. It had some likeable characters and then one I really didn’t like which kind of put me off a little bit. I wasn’t sure at first about the modern day setting of the book, when I think about fantasy books like this I always imagine it being set in a different world, but this was hinted at right at the end of the book. It did take me quite a few chapters to decide if I thought I was going to like the book which is unusual for me, I can normally tell this quite quickly. Some parts of the felt a little rushed but I liked some of the romance a the general idea. I will probably read the second book but not sure the first is something I would go back to.

This story really could’ve gone places. But it didn’t, it went nowhere. If the execution was better, if there was actual world building and character development, this could’ve been good. It’s kind of a let down because the first chapter was really good, then It all fizzled out real quick.

I really enjoyed this read. It was a fast romantacy read so at times things seemed to progress a little too quickly but I think that’s the nature of a read of this length. I enjoyed the read and I will be continuing the series.

Very enjoyable book, Fae battles, love and friendship.
