This was a book that could have been a real slog -- nonfiction that tackles heavy topics can get that way. But Antonia managed to make this truly captivating, and I found myself opting for the audiobook thanks in large part to her own narration. The pace was technically slow, but I had trouble putting it down. Beautifully told stories of complicated and often brutal relationships between mental health, Black Americans, and America itself.

Informative and infuriating.  I'm not sure that all the side quests added to the value of the narrative. Despite that, I still enjoyed it and look forward to discussing it with the book club.

DID NOT FINISH

Really important and interesting story, but the writing is a bit slow paced. May try to revisit in the future.
