Wow! How many more stories like this are untold? How we handle mental health in the US is still not great, but dang, it’s so important to know what has happened in our histories meat and fat past. What had happened before informs and impacts what happens now. People’s stories deserve to be told, those of us who have power to vote and advocate need to know and take action.

Would recommend.
Powerful account of this this mental hospital and the intersections of oppressive systems that allowed it to exist.

really sad but important telling of the “hospitalization” of black mentally ill (and many not mentally ill) people in the not too distant past. The author does a good job telling stories and not just relaying facts. I listened in audio bc the hard copy is on back order, but I’ll def re-read with my eyeballs bc I know I missed some details.

A *massive* amount of research, compiled beautifully to honour and tell the stories of the people of Crownsville, and more broadly, Baltimore.
