I feel rude giving this book 3 stars, but I am going on this website's definition of two stars: "it was okay." I couldn't figure out the answers to all the mysteries, so that was cool--I like being one half surprised and one half self-satisfied by mystery novels' endings. Not that I actually ever read mystery novels.

Can't say I much cared about any of the characters, but I didn't hate or become too bored by any of them, either. I will say that Coben's dialog got on my NERVES sometimes! (Case in point: the scenes with the teen girls at the mall. Sure they used a lot of "likes" and "you knows," but they were placed in awkward points throughout the conversation and not used the way we real early-90s mall rats would've used them! That bugged me, as it seemed like a middle-aged parent's bad impersonation of an out-of-touch, boppy teen. Those impressions are usually far off the mark and entertaining only for the other parents. So I believe, at least.)

Another thing to note: I listened to this on CD while on a teensy road trip. It's possible that I would've given the book a higher rating had I read it on my own over a few days' time instead of necessarily rushing through by listening. (The actor annoyed me much of the time, too.)
