Breton is a self important assssssssss and Nadja an absolutely tragic character, I read everything with an arched eyebrow knowing how it ended in real life versus how it’s depicted by Breton… when he attempts to present this work as purely real and honest but omits important details I have to conclude it’s self delusion

Began this during winter break, put it down until just today when I had the energy to read something not required of me by school, and I finished it all in this sitting. The first section is what I read during winter break, and it made little sense, and Nadja's name didn't appear until the last page. The second section was invigorating and like the first ever manic pixie dream girl story of all time but also nuanced and interesting and Surreal, the final section being a somewhat indulgent reflection on the narrative with some interesting points. I loved the inclusion of photos and drawings, it really brought it to life.
And she, without a moment‘s hesitation: „I am the soul in limbo.“
An sich ist es eine interessante Geschichte. Breton trifft auf auf die exzentrische Nadja, welche dann seine surrealistische Muse für eine Zeit wird. Der Roman wäre auch deutlich interessanter, wenn es aus Nadjas Perspektive geschrieben wäre, da Breton doch eher ein Langweiler und (nett gesagt) ein Ekel ist. Nadja ist arm, hat ein Kind, hat ihr Leben verlassen ist nach Paris gezogen und probiert, im Exzess zu leben und landet dann in einer Psychiatrie, wo sie verkommt. DAS ist der Stoff, der den Roman interessant machen könnte und nicht Bretons Abhandlungen zur französischen Kunst. Man muss auch bedenken, dass das auf wahren Begebenheiten passiert ist und Breton Nadja nicht in der Psychiatrie besucht hat (aber seine andere Freunde haben!!!!!) und das dann mit einer ekelhaften und oberflächlichen Erklärung, dass Psychiatrien dem Menschen nicht helfen und ihm nur schaden, zu erklären (es ist schön kritisch gegenüber Institutionen zu sein, aber hier war es eine Ausreden, dass er sie nicht sehen wollte). Ich wünschte Nadja hätte die Möglichkeit gehabt, ihre Ereignisse zu berichten.
