Pretty slanted to the left, but many serious truths presented with his trademark satire. A bit of tedious overkill at times.
As usual with Stewart and his host of Daily Show writers, a brilliant piece of satire that has a solid structure in the form of textbook for the intrepid alien visitor to our planet. This book is similar to America: A Guide to Democracy inAction, and delivers in much the same respect. Not necessarily a cover-to-cover read, but a great, light read on a variety of topics that are hugely entertaining. Stewart is the funniest social commentator in America today, and what makes him so good is a rapier wit and a keen ability to reveal things for what they really are no matter how social convention and tradition have muddied the waters.
I read this while tucked in the Warm Room with good friends. Hard to tell what was more annoying/endearing for the them, laughing out loud nearly every page, or insisting they listen to me read aloud choice sections.
Read about a third. It made me smile a few times, but wasn't hilarious enough to seem worth reading the whole thing.
Hilarious and informative, plus tons of geeky pop culture references.
When I listened to this audiobook I was expecting more from it than I got. I enjoy Jon Stewart and the Daily Show humor, and this book was somewhat like that - in very small spurts. The rest of the narrative fell a little flat for me. Overall I thought it was simply 'ok' - it was a good choice for a long weekend drive where I didn't have to think too hard about it.
In this case, by "read" I meant "skimmed pretty thoroughly" while I processed it for library circulation. While it doesn't disappoint, it's not mind-blowing/eye-opening like An Inconvenient Truth. In fact, I already forgot most of the content. I just know I chuckled to myself a few times.
Occasionally made me chuckle. Good for reading a little bit at a time instead of straight through.
Excellent fun read, very clever, make sure to read even the smallest words, no space or picture is spared humor!
