“Twilight, again. Another ending. No matter how perfect the day is, it always has to end”

I have struggled with what to write about this book, my first foray into the writing of Stephanie Meyer. What I know about the Twilight Saga is from what I remembered watching from the movies and how my feelings as a male tween/teen were with anything that I deemed to girly or not manly enough to actually like. Since I am now almost 30, with a group of friends at work I have decided to visit the town of Forks and become immersed in the romance between Bella and Edward.

I am kinda torn with how this book made me feel. Do I think this is good writing or a good book? No, I think most of the writing is heavy handed and has a large dose of teenage cringe to it. Did I still find Twilight to be an easy, extremely entertaining, and enjoyable? Yes! Very much so!

I look at this book in the same way that a bad or cheesy show is. I can separate in my brain and acknowledge that there are better books with better writing that tell wonderful stories and have deep, meaningful characters with interesting plot ideas. I can also still say that I was caught up in the romance and the chemistry of Edward/Bella. This book is the definition of “turn your brain off and just enjoy”.

I think this works for the first book in this series, but if every book in the Twilight Saga is like this, where all the characters are paper thin (Ex: All we know about Charlie is he can’t take care of himself, he is a sheriff, and he likes to fish) then we could have a problem, but for the first book that is geared toward tween/teen girls, this is entertaining enough to have me interested in what happens, with “Supermassive Black Hole” on repeat.

im actually soooooooo normal about twilight
ok so confession - i have never read twilight before. or seen the movies.
until 2024.
FUCK THAT WAS GOOD???
now i will say. yes the book is cringe at points. like when edward literally eats bella's tears.
and also meyer is um. Odd! like calling jacob "indian"....... Erm!
but i did in fact gobble this book up so. i think im at fault here.
i don't know why i was so addicted to this book but i swear to god its laced with crack.
ummmm i actually cant put how i feel into words.
the ending ate, the story ate, the characters ate (shout out alice u remind me i like women), the pacing, everything (minus the cutesy-cringe moments & the microaggressions....)
i hate you alastair because im an addict. i need my next twilight fix.

Reread.
Sadly, this time I noticed how cringe the book actually is, but 25% in didn’t notice it anymore. I still like Edward even though I knew that the age difference is weird but you know who cares, it’s a book and it’s a product of its time. Bella really had to be not like other girls but also self deprecating

This is fine. Sure, there are a lot of corny moments at the point of cringe, but still okay. I don't like the super long chapters; not a fan.

Bella has a funny mind. She's opinionated, clumsy, and awkward and I love that. I also like that she reads books for fun. Oh, I also love the part where she prepares and cooks in the kitchen a lot of times.

Edward on the other hand is toxic basically.  The horrors of the vampire life aren't mentioned that much, it might have been interesting.

Jacob was chill and funny.✨

By the way, didn't Bella even realize that she might have liked or loved Edward because it's part of the vampire stuff? I mean, teenage hormones, I guess? But yeah, I sensed that she had a death wish.

Poor Charlie, he had no idea.

Oh well, thanks, Stephenie❤️

I feel like there isn't even a need to write a review, because who doesn't know Twilight by now.
Like many, I have a complicated relationship with the Twilight saga. It is so bad but so good.
It is a terrible book, but it's unintentionally so unhinged and funny.
It also really puts me in the mood for fall! Especially when having the movie soundtrack play in the background while reading.
When I read it for the first time when the books first came out I read Twilight in Dutch.
This was my first read through in English and I have to say I was surprised to find out that Stephenie Meyer isn't a bad writer! The writing style is easy and enjoyable to read in my opinion. However, I will forever be convinced Stephanie was meant to be a thriller/horror author who for some reason stumbled into the romance genre.

All and all, I had fun rereading Twilight and will be rereading the rest of the series.
When the book first came out I read a bit of midnight sun. I was told it justifies a lot of Edwards actions when you read the story from his perspective. It did not. It made it worse. I love this dumpster fire of a book series.

Read at your own risk. You will never be the same.

Ps: Alice is and always will be the BEST character
