This isn't so much a book as it is a license to take an online quiz that will highlight your strengths. The premise of the book is that our opportunities to grow are available mostly through working on our strengths, not our weaknesses. The online quiz will show you your five strengths and give you some tips to grow that strength. For the strengths the quiz picked for me, I think it got four pretty good ones and one way off. The tips were pretty common sense.
Generally I'm a sucker for all things personality/category based. Gives you a good jumping off point.
Some pros:
1) good explanations of the talents
2) actionable statements about how to apply them to your life
3) almost the entire book is available in segmented PDFs on the website
Some cons:
1) generic: they say it's personal, but the explanations are broad. The action items are made to be a big deal that your 10 are selected for you. They will be the same general 10 actions ascribed to each strength. Meaning, Person A will get the same 10 action items on their assessment
2) low tech: for a book based on an online assessment, can someone please explain to me why I must buy the hardback book to get a code to take the assessment.
3) opaque: they give you 5 strengths/talents, but no understanding of how your scores may have been on any of the strengths.

This isn't really a book you read cover to cover. It's got an online test that takes about 35 minutes, which helps you identify your top five strengths. We used this book as part of a leadership institute retreat, and it was really great!
After doing Myers Briggs test I wanted to venture towards more personality based psychology. Strengths Finder seemed ideal.
The results showed 3 strengths I believe to be true. I'm glad I paid a low rate for this book.

I have not read this whole book, but I can't imagine having any reason to do so. This book comes with an online test and after you receive your results you can read about your five strengths in the book. There are 34 areas that you can receive as strengths. Except for my friend who is picking his based on reading them rather than from the test, I think most people just read their own strengths.
I took this several years ago as a work project and my strengths this time were slightly different. The one consistent area is input which I know is something that runs my life. I always want more data, more information, more to think about. So from my perspective the test seems accurate.
I am not sure that I can recommend this book to any particular group of people. I suspect most people read this because of work or because they are evaluating their present job. I did the test as part of my vocation study group.

I found it sort of predictable, but also interesting. And compelling enough that I read all about my traits, and then about friends' of mine as well!
I was thinking that I'd do this, since I can get at a decent price from work. I'm not too sure how I feel about the end result but it has definitely made me think about what my actual talents are - In the list that they gave me, I have the following talents:
1. Empathy
2. Context
3. Relator
4. Learner
5. Restorative
It doesn't predict jobs or anything like that. Just tells you what your core talents are and how they make you (me) different from everyone else. I was surprised by no.5. and no. 2 not so much by the others. But I think it's nice to have as a guide and also nice to know that there are things about myself that I don't know. Definitely would recommened since it took less than hout to read, do the quiz and the read about my talents. I'm looking forward to talking these over with my boss. :)

Good tool, would have been better if I had my own copy so I could have taken an assessment test.
Not really a book. More of an online test. Very accurate results. Definitely clarifies what you are good at and thrive in.
