i loved the story mostly because of the whole squad and i love them all. also the lesbian relationship bc that was the sweetest. however, leah was not my favorite thing in the world. she was kind of a bitch, and not in a accidental way, but in a way that she felt entitled to more than anyone else. but she was a slightly relatable character with the way she thought and the struggles she went through. also, the writing wasn’t great. mostly just seemed like a watt pad fanfic an 8th grade girl would’ve wrote after reading simon vs the homosapians agenda. but, overall really enjoyed reading it. (also abby, bram, simon, and garrett are the purest i love them)

This book was almost as good as Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. However, don't read it until you've finished that one, because this *is* a sequel and does spoil who Blue is.

Leah felt like the exact same character as she did in Simon vs., as did all of the other characters. This book perfectly explained relationships in Simon vs. that were intriguing and/or not fully explained.
SpoilerSimon's relationship with Bram is just as believable as it is in Simon vs, as well, and it's refreshing to see more of them.

This is very much a character-driven novel, and for a while there's not much plot to be seen. It develops a bit more later on, once
SpoilerAbby and Leah go on the tour of UGA
, but I never felt that it was a problem.

SpoilerLeah's slow realization/acceptance that she liked Abby felt completely believable, as did Abby's acceptance of her feelings for Leah.

After finishing Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda, I needed more! So, I jumped right into this book. Immediately I hated Leah.

"I hate when assholes have talent. I want to live in a world where good people rule at everything and shitty people suck a everything."

Now that I have thought about it some more, I think my rating is more like 3.5 stars.

I have been so excited to read this ever since it was announced! I loved Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda!
But the more I thought about it, there was just something about this book that bugged me, I can't really pinpoint what it is though. The writing confused me at times with the transitions, like they would suddenly be outside when they were just sitting down inside, and I didn't even realise they left.

There were a lot of times I loved Leah! She was funny and sincerely loved her friends so much! But at the same time she kind of annoyed me. Like some of the ways she talked and interacted with the other characters just felt weird to me, and kind of unnatural.

Overall I really enjoyed reading this book! It was fun to read!

My brain is an asshole.

Okay i’m not even totally sure how I feel about this book, but i’m going to take a shot at expressing my thoughts.

It was definitely no where near as charming as Simon Vs. I think the relationship development was just so absolutely random for the characters involved. It seemed like Becky just threw this wlw relationship into the mix for the heck of it, and that it wasn’t thought out very well for it to be an epic love story. And yes although i’m aware you can enjoy a book without comparing it to its predecessor, I think it was hard to ignore. Honestly, reading Leah on the Offbeat felt eerily similar to reading a fan fiction about the respective couple in this book (no spoilies), where the names and descriptions of the characters are the same, but everything else seems a little off tempo. Like it was an out of character attempt to recreate another authors work, but it came from Becky.

Having said that, this would be a fan fiction i’d whole heartedly enjoy, which is what confuses me on my feelings about the book. It was endearing. It was. And I think the couple is super cute. But I guess I wasn’t expecting this weird fanfiction-esque experience when I started reading this book. Especially when I adored Simon Vs so much.

3 stars because it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t anything special either. Probably not something I would read again, but not something I wished I hadn’t read.

So, I was supposed to buddyread this with one of my best friends, but ended up so panicked over who Leah could potentially end up with that I had to read it right away. Overall, I need to learn to trust Becky Albertalli and it was worth it.

I didn’t know how this book was going to fit into simon vs. But it takes place about a year after and it is from the perspective of one of simons best friends, Leah.
I was really into it and super intrigued and it was really fun and easy going but it also dealt with serious and important topics.

As a bi girl thirsting for representation, this book. Is. EVERYTHING. It's like Becky Albertalli has been watching my life for the past two years. Everything just resonated with me unlike any other LGBTQ+ novel I've ever read. I'll basically just be using Leah as my self-insert in an alternate universe where my straight crush with a boyfriend turns out to be not so straight after all.

The only reason this book gets 4 stars and not 5 is because I felt some of the development of Abby and Leah's relationship wasn't quite there - some transitions of Point A to Point B just didn't stick the landing. Otherwise, I HIGHLY recommend this as a must read for everybody!!
