Läs böckerna i rätt ordning.

This was by far the best Bridgerton novel of the first 6. It felt different insofar as it wasn’t the usual mature Rake chasing an innocent young girl. It was a mature woman
widow
and man both dealing with grief. That made the entire novel much more nuanced, as it felt that they were on equal footing (this is remarkably absent from many of the previous ones, at least physically and romantically.) The scenes with Violet Bridgerton were my favorite, as they provided a rare, sober look into family life of the usually upbeat novels. This novel doesn’t shy away from hardship or complication. It makes the story feel realer, somehow, like they continued to follow a story after the happily ever after. I loved it.

This was the best Bridgerton book so far which was surprising because I don’t even remember Francesca from the show.

I loved the book till chapter 18. The beginning is a little dry but I like that Francesa's first husband wasn't demonized and thought the book handled windowing and unrequited love beautifully. After the last few books, it was a welcomed improvement. Colin has a personally again that has nothing to do with food! Michael has so much personality too and I think he's my favorite male romantic lead in this series. Violet and Francesca talk about their husbands and how their situations contrast and compare helping in her healing process. So many good parts to this book and I don't mind the dubious consent but it just drags the ending of the book and feels repetitive. Oh and poor reivers.

I was interested enough to finish in a day so it was enjoyable enough however the characters felt flat compared to the other Bridgerton characters. Particularly Francesca which feels odd to say given all the character goes through. Maybe it’s because she’s rarely mentioned in the other Bridgerton in the books? The other characters have more prominent mentions than Francesca. Hell, even in the show Francesca only appears in one episode near the end, seemingly out of blue.

Then again this is Michael’s first appearance and he seems a little more fleshed out by comparison. It probably didn’t help I was frustrated by Francesca running away multiple times. Oh well, going with a 3 because it was fun entertainment on a snowy afternoon but I doubt I’ll be re-reading this book of the series.
