A new cozy series! A new cozy series!
I have to admit, I am really enjoying the return of more mature people in cozies. Madeleine Brooks may not be Miss Marple, but she is a newly divorced grandmother, ex-probation officer turned real estate agent. Definitely not a spring chicken fumbling her way into life! Though, the career change and divorce do give the reader the opportunity to follow along as Maddie (to her friends) has some starting and stumbling. And while I like that, I think there was a bit too much focus on the details of real estate. That is my only negative thing to say about the book. I would have been happier with a bit higher level look at that aspect. I don't need to follow along in the back and forth of price negotiating unless it provides a clue or sparks an idea that helps solve the crime. Hopefully future books will let the day to day of real estate slip to the background and Maddie can do more sleuthing!
