This book, and this series will always be a favorite for me.
I went into this just hoping that it wouldn't be the same song and dance as most YA fantasy series. I wanted to see a coupling that actually stayed together and fought for each other verse multiple lovers.
I fell in love with Aldrick and Vhalla's relationship and I was invested in them every step of the way.
Was it alittle predictable ? Sometimes, but not nearly in the ways that mattered.
The characters, both main and supporting, show so much growth. The characters learned and changed with the events and surroundings. They didn't repeat the same things nor did they emotional regress. I felt like it just made the bonds of the group so much more believable and relatable. I felt for these characters. I feared for them. I hoped for their happiness. For a book to invoke such attachment is one of my favorite parts of reading.
This might be labeled as YA and a debut series, but I felt like the whole story and world was a constant weaving of threads. Threads of the vortex, you could say. This series has very real and dark content to it, both physical and emotional. The depth of the overall series was perfect. It has just enough suspense, romance, magic, and thrill to keep you reading for hours. The only thing I felt was YA about it was the "fade to black" for sex scenes and the shorter than 500 page count per book. More pages doesn't always equal depth and a better story though. Each individual book in this series proves that point.
I cannot wait to read the Vortex Chronicles to learn more about the world and what happens with these characters I have so fell in love with. I want to know the mysterious magic that is "Vi".
Elisa Kova won a long term fan with this one.
10/10 would recommend and read again.
ps: TWINS? TWINS? MY HEART NEEDED THIS ENDING MORE THAN ANYTHING AFTER WHAT HAPPENED IN THE CROSSROADS.

This series was so amazing. Over all I give 10/10 for it as a whole. While this book may be my least favorite, I still really enjoyed it.

There were a lot of things in this book that I didn’t care for, including the main conflict with Victor and the caverns. I also didn’t care for a particular trope and its outcome. I did appreciate the character growth, though.

Bro I can’t. This was too all over the place and nothing really made sense if I thought to hard about it (true for the entire series but this book had none of the tropes to distract me)
Ugh. I have so many negative thoughts on the story line, don’t even need to go into how the world building from the previous four books was just ignored with the random addition of CRYSTAL EYE ZOMBIES and FLYING DRAGON BEASTS. Nothing was explained and the only reason I’m not complaining more about that is because I didn’t want the book to be any longer.
Ended up hate reading this.
There was half a moment I kind of liked but even that was so random that it was just me throwing my hands up and going “well ok then”

This book was a great ending to the series. It had emotion, heartache, adventure, magic, and action. I really enjoyed this ending to the series. I felt like the big battle was a little rushed, but to be honest if it was played out in front of me I might think differently. I loved the character development that happened throughout. The friendships are just so beautiful in this series.
.
This book picks up where the last one left off yet as the group sets out to prepare for war. This book took me way too long to finish, but I had gotten into a reading slump as soon as I started this book. I will say the beginning is a lot of preparing and traveling. There are some very special moments during that time, but it’s not as exciting. Victor has definitely tainted the world, and they are learning as they go what all has happened. Some things they are finding out in hard ways that push Vhalla harder. This is a big moment for Vhalla. She is starting to figure out who she is as she becomes part of Aldrick’s world. She has to figure out the role she wants to play. She is tested and pushed constantly. Choices are made - good and bad. Aldrick and her’s relationship is beautiful. They have been pushed to the brink and are still strong. Make sure you finish this series off because you won’t regret it!
