This book took me either 6 years or 3 days to finish reading, depending on how you look at it, but I’m glad I finally did! I enjoyed all the characters and had a lot of fun with it, and I got u expectedly emotional towards the end.

When I was first reading this in bits and pieces in 2019, I think my expectations for sci-fi were just different than what this book is, so the story wasn’t gripping me like I’d hoped whenever I picked it up. This time around, I was definitely better prepared, but I do still wish the plot was a bit tighter.

This is the kind of sci fi I love! So many lady characters but no sexual assault. Canon gay characters with no homophobia. No boring white men playing politics. Just a bunch of goofballs in space doing their best! Also a tall Lizard-Bird lady alien! What more could you want???

really enjoyed, even when i was annoyed which was somewhat often lol. the main complaint i can list is that alien racism was pretty prevalent as an element but it seemed like there were some aliens that it was kind of ‘ok’ to be racist against lol. this is a pretty common sci fi issue though
