I was so excited for this book that I had to read it immediately. It exceeded my expectations! The search for scientific innovations takes Charlie into modern day Egypt and Cleopatra's legacy. It is a fantastic historical mystery and adventure, well-researched with the information woven into the story to keep readers on the edge of their seats. Gibbs also includes an important look at the portrayal of powerful women in history and the biases they face. The Charlie Thorne series just keeps getting better and better! I can't wait for more! Highly recommended for grades 4 & up.

The Charlie Thorne adventures continue! It is action packed and fast paced with all kinds of agencies coming after Charlie. Although I do recommend this title officially, it is not without some considerations:
This character and series tends to be full of feminism. I wouldn't mind it if it weren't for Charlie claiming things like Cleopatra has a bad rep in history as just a beautiful woman instead of a well educated, powerful woman who ran an empire. There are a few other feminist comments throughout the story that were a bit irritating. I don't know very much about Cleopatra and this makes me want to do some research. The kicker was at the end when Charlie claims "There is no curse of Cleopatra. The only curse she had was being a woman." It's just too preachy in my opinion.

Donte and Moon are in a relationship in this book and honestly, it is very sweet. The two of them and Charlie have to go off grid on a boat, but there is no indication of Donte and Moon's sleeping arrangements. I didn't think of it until after the book was done.

Overall, it is a fun book!

I do like these and think they’re a fun MG series, but unfortunately by book 3, they’re starting to get extremely repetitive
