A wild, queer story! I found Mumu to be relatable, despite being an alien and serial killer. Their trouble with stairs, their loneliness and desire to be loved, and their frustration with their circumstances were all things I related to and have experienced. I kept hoping they would make a friend but circumstances I suppose I would not allow it.

What a book. What a book!!! Might just have found me a life favorite. Humorous and heartfelt, it's a book I desperately want to give a proper review to, but I can't right now, and maybe I shouldn't anyway because it really is best if you go into it knowing as little as possible. It's so much more than it seems and it surprised me in the most positive of ways. Just what I was looking for.

Loved the audiobook and narrator! Love the
translator's note
at the end as well (not sure if this counts as a spoiler so I'll mark it as such just in case).

Need a physical copy so bad!

This book is disgusting in a way that only queer science fiction can manage to be. Its vivid descriptions of body horror made me physically recoil, at the same time I found myself delighting in some moments of the narrator playing jury judge and executioner. There are a lot of angles this book can be examined and it is if nothing else very interesting. I do think some of the poignancy and existential musings does get overshadowed by the ridiculously vivid depravity.  Personally I don’t really like sci-fi or super violent books, but despite that I got through this very quickly and would recommend to anyone who wants something a little off beat

This is not a book for most people.

It is violent and sexual and strange, inviting you to listen to a people-eating alien tell you their most intimate thoughts and actions while hiding and surviving on planet earth.

The experience should be alienating--and sometimes it is.  Sometimes you have to reckon with the fact that you're talking to someone with 3 legs and almost 30 genitals who is unapologetic about who they are.  But I also found myself connecting so closely with the narrator.  They embodied so much of my fear and anger as an invisibly disabled person trying to live in a world where my physical body will always hold me down.

The end of this novella is sudden.  It made me think and think and rethink.

This book shows you the monstrous in yourself and how you have been a monster to others.  If you can handle the content, this is one I highly recommend.
