This is a solid book! A fascinating story full of terror, love, heartbreak and most importantly- the evil of mankind! 
Good f&cking book! Definitely not for the faint of heart but damn- my heart hurts after reading this!

I agree with some that a lot of the message of this book was told outright, rather than simply shown through the story. However, I did love this book. It was creepy and disturbing and the concept was rather unique. I will say, it took me a while to fully become immersed in the writing style, but by the end I couldn't stop reading until I finished. And jesus that ending...

Up until the last chapter every character made me think "wow, you can really tell this was written in 2012 by a guy- the bigotry did not age well" and then the ending happened and made everything make sense and I was so pleased while simultaneously being horrified. Highly recommend!

I really like the first three-quarters of this - a horrifying slow burn. It is pretty brutal and gruesome, so beware if you don't like sort of gory and generally troubling horror. However, the end suddenly shot off the rails into chaos, feeling out of character with the book and frankly losing me a bit - I preferred the slower build.
