Creepy, unsettling, atmospheric. Dark and upsetting.

Very, very Stephen King, which I liked.

Weird undertones of possible sexism that had me wondering. Also remnant of vintage SK, lol.

Author also has a weird thing with women’s foreheads. Did he have a large-foreheaded aunt that hit him once upon a time? What can I say, I’m wondering what’s up with that.

* * * *

Plot: 4 stars (nuanced, well-paced and compelling, kept me hooked)

Characters: 4 stars (well developed, multidimensional and realistic. Sympathetic in ways but not really likable/lovable)

Writing Style: 4.5 stars (very immersive from the get-go, clear writing that is engaging and descriptive, focuses on necessary details and spares you the rest. Really carries the story well.)

Pacing: 5 stars (flows effortlessly)

Emotional Impact: 3 stars (makes an impact, but not quite unforgettable)

Themes: 4 stars (interesting and well incorporated, but not groundbreaking)

Atmosphere: 4 starts (immersive and vividly written, sets a strong tone)
