Roxy has what is often referred to as moxie. She doesn’t let anything hold her back. An aspiring actress she has had her ups and down in her career. There are more downs than ups, but she’s determined to make it on her own. Unfortunately, moxie doesn’t pay the bills. She’s proud of herself and proud of her grit, but when Louis comes into the picture she has a hard time seeing her barely eking by existence fitting into his world.

While Louis comes across as an unfeeling playboy at first, he’s actually a lawyer with a heart of gold. He is always there to help those in need, even when they don’t ask or want his help. Therein lies one of the problems between these two. His need to help and her independence lead to a big lie. At least Louis knows he should tell her, but that doesn’t mean he does.

I hate to say it, but the admiration I had for Roxy in the first half of this book did start to wear off in the second half. I felt for her and her hidden insecurities, but her tendency to react first and ask questions later started wearing on me. It also bothered me that the peripheral characters were not fleshed out more. I assume that the other books in this series will be their stories, but I still wish I knew them better by the end of this one.

This was a cute read, and I love Roxy's reluctance to let new friends and people into her life and how that changes as the book progresses. I do think Louis messed up getting Roxy the audition with so little thought into how he knew the director, but it was all with the best intentions.

Overall, I think they are a well balanced couple and I'm glad they ended up together.

I always struggle to rate these books, particularly the old Tessa Bailey or the short ones. Was this book good? honestly no. However, I know exactly what i’m signing up for when i start them and that’s a 3 sittings max read, that’s spicy and quick to pull me out of slump. Would I recommend this one over the others that are just like it? probably not. But again it did what I needed it to do and so for that it earns some points back.
