This is my least favourite TJR book. Maybe I’m just dead inside but I couldn’t get behind this whirlwind romance. The fact they got married and his family didn’t even know she existed was weird. This was told in the past timeline of them falling in love and the present timeline after he died. The relationship between her and her mother in law, as they worked through their grief. This story just didn’t work for me, but I could see this working for other people if they are hopeless romantics.

With this, I have to keep in mind that it was a DEBUT. If this came out after Carrie Soto, I would've been devastated.

Well, maybe not, that's extreme.

Either way, I bought fruity pebbles after reading this and I feel like that's the opposite reaction I should've had.

I hated Elsie. SO so much. Grief IS different for everyone, but freaking call about your marriage certificate instead of wallowing in self pity for literally six months. It's just a call. I cannot. I hated it.

I had a courthouse wedding, so we got our certificate the same day, so maybe I just don't understand whatever process they went through. I can't figure out how a 20-something doesn't know his social security number? That shows he was too immature to have gotten married.

Elsie was married for a week and they were inseparable for five months, so I get she should be grieving but woo that codependency is too much for me. idk.

I also can't believe how she casually moved in with her MIL for a few months after hating her for so long.

My favorite character was the old man at the library. He's a star and deserved the world.

TJR can do no wrong in my eyes - I adore her writing style, her characters, her storylines. Loved every second of this book, I laughed and cried, sometimes at the same time, and really felt like I was living in Elsie’s world which is the best reading experience for me
