I enjoyed this book far more than I thought I would. I laughed throughout the book. Jamie works for a high profile match-maker, like people pay 6 figures to sign up for this service. She and two colleagues have been working for months trying to find a match for Jackson Sinclair. Jamie decides the best way to go about this was to set up a fake profile and go on a date with Jackson to see what's actually going on. Their first date is just the start of the ridiculous rom-com plot.
Jackson turns out to be such a lost puppy. His backstory was definitely deeper than I expected for such a light-hearted book. Jamie tries her hardest to keep a professional distance from Jackson, but damn that man was willing to give her the world.

I actually can’t believe my fucking eyes?? I knew I JUST KNEW I should have waited to do my 2024 reading wrap, but I convinced myself my top 5 books wouldn’t change. I mean, a week(!!) shouldn’t change everything AND YET!?
Okay.
Yes. You must read this. You must love this. I’m honestly at a loss as to where to start.
Let’s begin with Jackson because holy hell, he definitely just made my top 5 MMC list. Let’s set aside the fact that this was quite literally the HOTTEST book I’ve read this year—he is thoughtful and compassionate, attentive and loyal. He is resolute in his commitments, and his compassion is a living, breathing thing. He has been absolutely starved of love and terrified of finally being full of it. There is a fundamental truth in the fact that humans NEED touch, hands that guide us, arms that wrap around us in the inalterable certainty that we are loved. Jackson was robbed of this. At every moment, at every opportunity. His heart was torn apart by the people he was supposed to be loved by, and I think he was resolute in the belief he was better alone. Safer. To see him be held gently. To have someone so willing, so wanting to set aside their ego for the minute chance of convincing him of his worth, was just, I mean, it was everything. To witness him exuberantly in love, to see him be loved back? It was stunning.
Jamie. My selfless, loving, tenderhearted girl. Oh, how ardently I adore you. It’s surprisingly more rare for me to absolutely adore an FMC as strongly as I do some MMC. I’m sure it has to do with sexual attraction and whatnot, but Jamie unequivocally stole my heart. She is so incredibly precious. She is generous to a fault and loves SO deeply. My sweet girl tried so hard to remain out of love only to find herself securely in the middle of it and handled the fallout with more care than one could expect. She loves Jackson continuously, selflessly, bravely(!!) Outside of Jackson— and by that I mean who Jamie is regardless of Jackson and the stress, exhaustion, and love he brought into her life—Jamie is hilarious; like, truly, she made me laugh SO much! She is diligent and persuasive and endlessly deserving of good things. I loved watching her be loved:,)
There were these two quotes playing continuously in my mind while I read that I wanted to share.
1) “In order to become a better person I had to do something unintuitive. I had to reject the idea that punishing myself would solve the problem. I had to find the love.”
2) “They were smiling at each other as if this was the beginning of the world.”

Ik had verwacht dat dit een dertien in een dozijn romcom ging zijn, maar de dialoog was on point en zorgde ervoor dat ik met een grote grijns verder las. En toen kwam de spice. En boy oh boy oh boy. OH. BOY.
I have been waiting for this book to have an audiobook and boy was I happy when this one was released. Hopefully it'll be popular enough for A Deal with the Bossy Devil to also get an audiobook.
Jamie works for a matchmaking company and has been working on finding Jackson a match for MONTHS without success. It's kind of hard to be successful when Jamie and her other 2 co-workers aren't able to personally interview the client and his expectations are a bit unreasonable. The writing is on the wall that if they can't find him someone, they'll be the sacrificial lambs when the news gets out in order to save the company's reputation. Afterall, Jackson Sinclaire is wealthy, popular in the upper society circles, and is very attractive.
In an act of desperation, Jamie's co-worker suggests she go in undercover to discover who Jackson really is and why his dates aren't successful. That's when the date turns into a disaster and her secret is quickly discovered.
Once the secret that Jamie went on the date instead of a client, that's when the book gets good. It's good leading up to it, but man it's great after. Jackson has a meddling aunt that makes it so the two have to work together on this matchmaking thing, Jamie has a cat with the personality of an ancient ruler with demands that must be met while eating, and now they all have to live together.
The banter, the house staff, the cat… this book could not go wrong. This is a fun read, except for Jackson's past, but it's well written and shaped him into the prickly guy he is. I highly recommend this book.
Look, my parents follow me on Goodreads. I'm not gonna go into details here. Just... 5 stars, ok?
