As a longtime fan of The Best Man franchise - from the original film to The Best Man Holiday and most recently The Final Chapters limited series on Peacock - I wasn’t sure what to expect when I heard a book was coming. I’ll admit it: I was skeptical. I thought, Why take this story to the page after all we’ve seen on screen?

Well, let me just go ahead and say I was so wrong.

Malcolm D. Lee and Jayne Allen pulled me all the way back into the world of Harper, Jordan, Lance, Robyn, Quentin, Shelby, and the crew. They also dragged my emotions with them. I was hooked. Completely. They owe me some therapy sessions, because I was not prepared to feel all the things I felt while reading this.

This book had everything: heartbreak, unresolved trauma, laugh-out-loud moments, real-life mess, healing, growth, and of course, some spice. The characters felt like older cousins I’ve grown up with and continued to root for. Their struggles felt real. Their evolution felt earned. And the writing? So well done. I was truly surprised at how naturally the story translated to the page without losing the depth, humor, and layered drama that made us fall in love with this universe in the first place.

I came into this book cautious. I left it a full-blown member of the Best Man Book Club. If this is the first in a trilogy like I’ve heard, I’ll be pre-ordering the next two the second they’re announced. And if they turn this installment into another movie or series? I’ll be front row, popcorn ready.

This is how you continue a legacy. Yes, yes, yes.

Glad that’s over. Good cliffhanger though, that was best Robyn chapter in the book. It was pure nostalgia that made me keep going. Robyn’s chapters seemed mostly about recipes and her cooking, this could have shaved a few hours off the book. Jordan MFing Armstrong got on my MFing nerves and Harper was a selfish ass for most of the book. Would probably read the book with Q and Shelby.

Whew. When I tell you my jaw was on the floor by the last page, I mean it. The Best Man: Unfinished Business took me on an emotional rollercoaster I didn’t see coming, but would absolutely ride again. This first book in the new Best Man trilogy gives us exactly what we’ve been craving since The Final Chapters miniseries... and more.
Told through the perspectives of Harper, Jordan, and Robyn, the story picks up after the dust has settled, but the hearts are still navigating some very real pain. What unfolds is a layered and beautifully chaotic journey through grief, healing, identity, resentment, and the kind of unresolved emotion that builds between people who have known and loved each other for decades. There were moments that made me laugh, moments that frustrated me, and moments where I simply had to sit with the emotional weight of what was happening. My Kindle definitely got a workout.
This book delivered tension, transformation, and accountability in the most authentic way. The crew we’ve loved since day one shows up with that same fierce love, tough truth, and perfectly timed humor. From beginning to end, I was locked in, staying up late to find out what Harper, Jordan, and Robyn would ultimately choose for their hearts, their futures, and the lives they are still trying to rebuild.
It’s rare that a story delivers both nostalgia and newness without skipping a beat. Unfinished Business gave me everything I didn’t know I needed, and it sets the stage for more. I’m officially invested. Thank you to Malcolm D. Lee, Jayne Allen, NetGalley, and Crown Publishing for the advanced copy. This was a five-star read with a five-star ending, and I cannot wait to see what comes next.

Heartwarming read in the continuation of a beloved film franchise. The storytelling seamlessly flows from the movies with the introduction of the characters’ inner monologues. Thoroughly enjoyed and looking forward to the next installment!
