This was very odd but pretty funny and pretty good! I’ll definitely be reading more of this series! I loved all the hilarious banter and antics of Loki! I’m very intrigued to see where this story goes! Loved the combined fantasy and science!

I really expected to enjoy this novel more than I did. It's not that it was bad, but the entire story seemed to move at a jerky pace. Things would happen out of the blue or characters would react in a strange way to something. I liked some of the mythology bits, but I was hoping Loki would be a bit more... Loki. He didn't seem like the world's greatest prankster, more like a guy simply named Loki. I don't know, it was strange. Amy was a decent character, but she just seemed to be there to move the story along. I really had wanted to read this full series, but I changed my mind after this novel. Good thing it was free!

So funny and entertaining... I had much more than a couple good laughs with this book. Loki is just comical and so is our lead female character. Together, they are quite the comedy/fight duo.
I recommend it.

This was one of those books that I read while sipping my morning coffee, brought with me into the bathroom, neglected my parental duties, stayed up too late to read, and generally just could not put down. I am completely enthralled with the mythical world created by Ms. Gockel and don't want to leave it! I'm going to have to force myself to wait a week before I buy part II of the series (Monsters) so that I can get caught up on essential tasks.

(I've been reading Norse mythology and fiction inspired by Norse mythology with my son, but this is not a book for children. He can thoroughly enjoy it when he's old enough, but the themes of brutality and rape and brutal rape crop up much too often for the book to be appropriate for a 10-year-old child.)

Update: I lasted just over 12 hours before buying Part II: Monsters. It took me 3 days to devour that and Part II: Chaos. I know there's a part 3.5 (In the Balance) and a part IV: Fates waiting for me, but I feel sufficiently sated by the conclusion of Part III to pause and go grocery shopping. Utterly delightful. Still not appropriate for children, which is a shame as my 10-year-old would love the not-for-adults-only parts of the story. Ah well, he'll be an adult before I know it, and he'll love it then just as much as I do now.

I won't give this a star rating because I didn't realize getting into it that it was Thor/Loki fan fic which is quite frankly not my thing.

Eh

I'm not really that sure that I liked it. The way you retold Asgard and told about the World Tree was cool. Finally the whole Steve Rogers thing was funny but I just didn't understand some parts.

This was an awesome read and take on Norse mythology, especially concerning Loki. I admit that the main reason I wanted to read this book was because of Loki. In the Norse pantheon, he is my favorite God. He is widely known as the God of Mischief and his acts definitely support that title. Despite being mischevious and increasingly become evil, the author portrayed a side of Loki that is rarely seen. I loved Loki even more because of this book. Cliche as it sounds, our Trickster is the way he is because of many things that happened in his past and how he was treated. He has loved and lost; losing being the constant component in his life. I felt his rage and loneliness and I am eager to read what how he exacts his revenge and whatever other plans he has in store.

The plot itself was interesting. I liked that idea of a mortal aiding a deity, but I'm not entirely sold on it. I think this is probably because I immensly enjoyed the mythology more than anything else. Still, it was fun reading about Amy and Beatrice's reactions to Loki. Of course Amy was skeptical and I was getting annoyed that she kept trying to convince herself she was just dreaming, but I probably would have been doing the same thing. It was great that Beatrice was more accepting to the idea that they were housing a mythological being (so to speak). What I also found satsifying was the lack of (or at least there was little of) romance between the two characters. Yes you can't deny that Loki is attractive or that Amy is appealing, but at least it wasn't "OMG instant connection!" I feel like there is too much of that going around. Obviously the two have a relationship of sorts. They have saved one another respectively and they also put each other at odds. The book ended with a bit of a cliffhanger what with disappearances, stolen money, and suddenly the FBI rearing their heads. I want to read more about Loki's backstory and how the hell Amy is going to get out of whatever she is in. There was also a passage that alluded to some impending occurence coming to Asgard and what Loki's role may be concerning it. That is an idea waiting to be expanded; a question wanting to be answered. So for anyone that likes Norse mythology and want to read a different (but not completely divergent from the truth) perspective on Loki, I would recommend this book. It is a bit of a short read, under 200 pages, but it is worthwile.
