There are a lot of POV characters, especially early on, but Leicht balances these well for a fast read. There's max 2 male characters with any bearing on the plot, we love to see it <3

It was fine. I just don't like military style play by plays regardless of the gender of the characters involved. I also think there was a big missed opportunity in humanizing the antagonist which would have made for a juicier story.

Could’ve been a lot better with one less plot line, more distinctive character voices, and maybe a hundred fewer pages.

the further i got into this book, the more apparent it became that there wasn’t a clear point to the story. why are the characters doing what they’re doing? who knows? add in a few overused phrases and i just didn’t care anymore

This is a classic action science ficton novel for me. It's probably closer to a 7/10 for me, but good enough to get the round up. Fans of John Scalzi or James SA Corey would dig this book which serves as a quick and fun read.

Within the first couple chapters i found it was a little tricky to figure out who the real main character of the book was, but once that was sorted i was treated to a nearly non-stop sci-fi adventure that featured political intrigue, mega-corporations, guns for hire, AIs, mechs and much more.

Angel de le Reza is gun for hire who's last job for crime boss Rosie just went south fast. Rosie is a friend of sorts and makes an offer to Angel and her team that's too good to turn down, even if it might be a suicide mission.

As secrets slowly start to leak about Angel, Rosie, the mission and a stranger that keeps showing up, sacrifices will need to be made and lines crossed in order to save what really matters.

Excellent pacing, intriguing characters and a solid plot are big wins for me with this novel. I found myself thinking a little bit of the layering of cerebral consideration and action of the movie Inception with this book.

At times, some of the big plot reveals (not twists per say) could have been woven through the story a little better. But none of them come from out of nowhere and i was very pleased with the wrap up once the story was finished.

A strong recommend for any and all action sci-fi readers.

Oh my goodness was this dull and trite, and no amount of cute literary or pop culture jokes (like a character name Jeremy Brett and so many more) was going to help it. What we have here is a space opera that includes every trope and character type including the kitchen sink all packed into what I think the author wanted to be a fast and catchy romp. But it's dragged down by all of the extraneous references and stock characters, and there's not enough originality to get it off the ground.
