mission accomplished , sedaris . what a fucking stinker , dude . spoiler alert : he’s a narcissistic sadist who hates his family and he hated growing up with them . gee what a pleasant read .

i don’t even see how this qualifies as comedy except maybe in the universe of irony where inherently truly awful things like death of young girls , cats , puppies count as humorous . it reads as sociopathic . ha ha ? i am worse off for knowing people like this exist and think there’s a value in their story being told in any scope other than a warning . sedaris and co. are so objectively cruel it genuinely disincentives me from wanting to raise children . so, yeah . send it to countries with high birth rates i guess .

his essay about poop isn’t his worst . isn’t that an insane sentence about a published author ?

‘ 21 down ‘ is the first essay i enjoyed and it comes in at page 201 of 272 . it’s a pleasant 3 pager about celebrating the small wins with a fluffy anecdote that is funny in a way i’d call it charming ? even though it’s about masochists . ‘ smart guy ‘ at 239 is the second and final essay that i can solidly rate a 3 with its gentle acceptance of sub-par intelligence and the cute banter between him and his partner hugh in which sedaris is informed he must be good at things more than just vacuuming , but hugh will have to have a think . 

if anyone asks me for something good to read by sedaris , i will give them ‘ 21 down ‘ . if someone asks me for something demonstrative of sedaris , they can fetch this book from my proverbial recycle bin .

this is the second time in 2025 where i literally feel the seconds of my life being wasted by reading . congratulations , sedaris , you were right : “ the only crimp in my plan was that i seemed to have no talent whatsoever . “
