Horrifically funny in his fantastic accounts of the world at large.
Well, Mr. Sedaris, I really like you, but I shouldn't have tried to listen to all your audio productions at one time. I just couldn't finish this one and had to move onto Killing Mr. Griffin. Bet you've never had anyone tell you that before!
The tale about your life as an artist and an addict was just too heart wrenching for me. I wasn't laughing...I was despairing.

"After a few months in my parents' basement, I took an apartment near the state university where discovered both crystal methamphetamine and conceptual art. Either one of these things are dangerous, but in combination they have the potential to destroy entire civilizations."
Don't know why I waited so long to read David Sedaris because this was hilarious and loved it.

The mind of David Sedaris is an intriguing, perplexing, and amusing thing. His essays and observations—whether he’s attempting to learn French, recalling his childhood speech therapy, or dissecting the quirks of everyday life—are casually honest, sometimes a bit problematic, and always uniquely insightful. Few writers can turn such ordinary moments into something so sharp and funny.
I found myself smiling throughout the the book, just with a glimpse into the the way that he thinks. It’s incredibly well written; there are few examples of prose that truly translate in a way that make me laugh just from words on the page. It took me longer than I expected to finish, but I loved his storytelling and truly savored each essay.
I’m not sure if it’s a memoir or a book of essays (or a bit of both), but this book is perfect for an intermittent read. You can stop and start as you please without needing to refresh yourself on the latest chapter, which I appreciated.

It's true that David Sedaris books are mostly very similar, but "Me Talk Pretty One Day" is definitely the best of them (that I've read at least). It's a quick, comedic read that's bound to make you laugh out loud at least once.

When Sedaris is great, he’s really really great. There’s a few stories in here that are clear highlights, and I look forward to re-reading them in the future. I will seek out these stories though, as some of the others are more forgettable.
I’m glad I read it!
