I view all books with certain coloured filters and this one had a story painted from the colours of my soul.

I can't always wrap my head around time travel but I really really enjoyed this book.

Okay, this was such a breath of fresh air. Adventure, unique storyline, admirable characters. I flew through this and absolutely love it. I definitely need to check out more by the author.

Yet again, another letdown. There was also pressured to finish this book as well. Libby loved to remind me that FOUR other people were waiting in line to read this book and I was taking my sweet old time with it because I didn't enjoy the plot as much as I thought I would. I was so excited for this story as well. BUT THEY HAD TO THROW in TIME TRAVEL. that trope is my worst nightmare. I can never keep it straight and things get so confusing and hard to follow.

3.5….3.8….3.9…not quite 4 stars.

A typical YA book but interesting character development. You end up rooting for the boy who you’ve grown to know in 350 pages, only to have the last 10 pages lean towards the one you know nothing about. I’m sure there’s more to come with that in the next two books. It was interesting and fun enough!

I definitely liked this a lot more than I thought I would, especially since my previous young adult read and I did not get along. I was expecting this to be more or less along the same lines, but was pleasantly surprised by the relative maturity of the language and writing, and how nothing was overly explained. I was, however, grounded by some story beats that firmly reinstated to me that this is still a young adult book (falling and staying in love with your family's murderer is a little unbelievable, to me at least), but for most of the novel, I was very much enthralled.

This is reread and I didn’t like it as much as I did the first time. Weirdly, I wish it would have a cliffhanger or at least a punchier ending because this is a duology and the way the first book ends it almost seems like this is a standalone.

I could already tell I wasn’t going to enjoy this book because the writing style was grinding my gears
