Funny, surprisingly touching, masterfully handled - Pratchett's writing manages to be kind while staying as sharp as ever, and the cast of characters make this book an absolute delight.

First reread after reading this about 15 years ago. Tiffany Aching is still one of my favourite characters of all time. All of the other characters and their interactions were fun too and the book had surprisingly many reflective moments. I did not love some of the descriptions because they were too modern and took me out of the fantasy setting. But that is the only complaint I have. I'm looking forward to (re)reading the rest of the series.

Just really delightful. If you like fairy stories with a dose of morality and talk of the countryside with plucky characters and whimsy bursting out of the seams, jump in! I think Pratchett and I would have had great conversations about how terrible fairies are.

This was not the usual Discworld book, but it had all the greatness of Terry Pratchett's best work in it, particularly in his deep and true knowledge and understanding of human beings.

Even if you've read the book you have to check out the audio. It's a whole new experience. Please, do both, read and listen. In fact, I need to get my hands on both. I can't believe I don't own either.
