Tried. Too architectural—in a way that hasn’t aged well. I love discovering classics that I somehow missed and can now enjoy as a more patient adult... conversely, this is one that I would have loved when I was twelve but won’t now.

so good! Ellen Raskin seemed like a children’s author who was really tapped into the interests and wants of her audience — a menagerie of interesting, multidimensional characters, hijinks abound, and prose that knows/believes/trusts that it’s in the hands of a smart, capable kiddo. didn’t love ALL the choices made regarding its depictions of POC, but it was the 70s and hardly the most egregious way people have ever been written ha. wish I had a time machine to gift this to my fourth grade self!
