Overall this was a very tense and exciting 2nd installment to the series, I again loved the magic system and how the new aspects were incorporated. I cried at some points and l I enjoyed the new characters that we got to meet, I did however find the interactions between the main characters infuriating. There was so much miscommunication and overly emotional thinking that I felt annoyed and frustrated for the majority of the book. This is YA but the actions I found so childish and stubborn and some of the relationships didn't make sense to me. I will be reading the next book as I definitely need to know what happens next.

This book was just a long string of bad communication between the characters and bad decisions by the characters. I got so damn frustrated by every single one of them. Good thing the magic system is epic!

overall i thought this was a fine follow up to the first book. i love the world building, and the complexity of each individual character was really highlighted in this book, which i appreciated. the plot got a bit repetitive and the longer i think about the ending the more it pisses me off. going to see the series through the to end but this was a bit of a let down

I enjoyed this book quite a bit for some of it, a solid 4 stars. But after so many plans failed and constantly hearing about how Amari needs to tale the throne and blah blah blah it just became so incredibly redundant at times. Just like in the last novel, Inan was still my favorite pov to read and see him come to his senses by the end of the novel- but just like the last one his constant flip-flopping on whose side to take was just kind of annoying especially when most of the time theres no real reason for the changing decisions. He did the right thing by the end of the novel which is what matters but still it was a little annoying
